More Wedding Planning Advice. From Carter's Event Co.
Oct 25, 2019 | By: Melissa
Are you feeling overwhelmed? I know! When you're doing this all on your own, planning an entire wedding can be SO overwhelming! So I sought out another amazing planner to bring you some more helpful information! I LOVE what Madison of Carter's Event Co. had to say! It was all amazingly helpful, but trust me, you DEF don't want to miss tip #2!
This first piece of advice is SO spot on:
'Remember: your wedding is about YOU and your significant other, no one else. It can be easy to get overwhelmed by other people’s expectations or ideas for your wedding but focus on what YOU want and what makes you happy. That way, you can make planning your wedding as stress-free as possible by not worrying about creating a perfect event for everyone.'
YES GIRL! I think the number one thing that would weigh on me are all the decisions, not the actual tasking, but the decidingwhat to do. Because you may or may not know this about me, but I am about as indecisive as they get! So I 100% agree with her, because once you really quiet all those voices coming at you from every which direction you can really focus on YOUR voice and make the best decision for you.
I think what she says next is brilliant:
'Pick the top three things that are most important to you and splurge in those areas. By choosing what you just can’t picture your wedding without, you’ll be able to save money in other areas to help you stick to your budget. Plus, the things you have to have are the ones you’ll always remember, so don’t hold back here!'
Imagine how much headache that ^ advice will save! If I had to choose, photographer, video & location would definitely be my top picks! I'm choosing those things, not just because I am a photographer! But because photo & video is what you walk away with at the end of the day. And to me the location is where you will be unifying your souls together and I'd want the location to do that moment justice.
And Last piece of advice she gives:
'Let the vendors and your planner do the stressing and the hard work – be involved as much or as little as you want in hashing out the details, but don’t ever let it become stressful or burdensome. You already put in a lot of hard work to get to this point, now it is time to enjoy it and celebrate it!'
LOVE THAT! You're hiring your wedding professionals for exactly that reason- so they do the legwork. Communicate your vision and let them bring it to fruition, and you just enjoy yourself!
Madison is the founder of Carter's Event Co. She's a Charleston, SC native & College of Charleston alum, where she earned her Business Administration degree. (Scroll down to get in touch with her!)
I asked her a few questions to better get to know her and the why behind her business:
What is your why that propels you to do this work? (LOVED what she said, it made me wanna CRY!)
I’ve always thought that, as women, we should have more opportunities to feel captivating, not just in the way, society says we should, but simply for being our rawest selves. Love, when it is in its purest and rawest state, has a way of capturing true beauty that no gown, hairstyle, or makeup could reveal. I love being a part of this industry because I get to build relationships with so many couples and their loved ones while helping them celebrate their unique, beautiful love.
What do you feel like makes you & your business different?
I think it’s really important to take the time to get to know my couples, not just as clients, but as friends. I believe that the better I know them, the more comfortable they’ll be in trusting me and the better I’ll be able to understand their dream and make it come to life. That being said, I don’t have a specific style as a planner and not all of my weddings will look the same. Just like no two couples have the same love story, no two weddings will look exactly the same. I really want the unique love story of the couple to be seen in every detail throughout their big day so that it’s their style and their dream come true! I love getting to work with all kinds of creative professionals with different styles to create nothing short of magic for the bride and groom.
I’m also currently growing an inventory of wedding day necessities and decorations, so what’s fun right now is being able to fill my inventory with items that my couples have dreamed up by either buying them or custom making them. We currently have a beautiful, hand-made, custom wooden arbor, and a marble cake stand perfect for any wedding. More to come soon!
I’m most passionate about being creative and making ideas come to life. I just recently started learning fashion design under a Fashion Institute of Technology alum because I’ve always been drawn to designing wedding gowns. While I’m still interested in designing and creating dresses, I started Carter’s Event Co. because I love the beauty of a true love story even more than the beauty of the wedding gowns.
