OK. Chances are you've heard of branding, right? Duh I know. But what I want to do today is not chat about what it is, but really all the reasons why you need to avoid doing what I did for years! Yes, friend, learn from my mistake! Do not just present yourself to the world as a business! Be a brand! (Also notice no 's' at the end of friend, so thank you to the one person actually reading this HAHA!) So here's the thing right, just starting your business, whether with an MLM or a traditional business, you have thought, 'I need to create a new instagram handle and facebook page just for my business. I need to make a page, because then it will be a 'legit' business. But what I want to tell you is don't do itttt!
If you do this, #1) do you really feel like you are using the maximum potential of your social media reach? #2) Do you think you are best serving your clients by just being a business? If your answer is yes or no, you need to hear this! Because if you’re anything like me, this will provide a whole lot of clarity, even if you think you are using it to the fullest with your business!
OK let's just get it out of the way quickly! For those of you who don't know what exactly a brand is, in the words of my good friend Kayla Manly of Kayla Sue Design, "Brands are a way for businesses to connect with customer emotionally and become known. You want your customer to recognize your brand immediately and trust it - like a good friend." (You can check out my podcast episode with my sweet friend Kayla, here!)
Ok, if that still isn't quite clicking for ya, (like it didn't for me forever and a lifetime!) essentially you can think of it in this way: you aren’t just going to be a faceless, cookie cutter business just selling a product or service. You will be humanizing yourself to your audience, customers, or clients to create a feeling in them. How do you do this? Share yourself, your life, the things that you love (your product or service being one of those things!), everything that makes you, you. In doing this you will be creating a feeling in other people about yourself/the products you share. Hint: You want people to like you. Ok I think you get, right? You will just be more than just a faceless business. And what will this do? Help you gain people’s trust. Because they know you and they like you.
Here are Some More Benefits!
Staying consistent will be easier
On social media, you will easily be able to stay consistent. No tug of war between 8.5 billion accounts (pretty sure that's how many I've had, but who's counting?) Instead you can focus your efforts on just one: instagram, linked to facebook! And PS, I do agree that you should have an official facebook page, but the beauty is you can just share all the same stuff on your personal FB to your page! Create content once, share.
You’ll reach a lot more people
Again for a social media perk, you will be focused on growing one account. DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH EASIER THAT IS?! Sorry for yelling at you there, but I just got really excited for you haha. Not to mention, you already are choosing the account that has the greatest following, so you're already starting at better point.
You’ll also get way more engagement! It’s very common to have lower engagement on business/product posts, so if you’re posting other things that people can relate to as a human, people will be engaging with that stuff. More engagement as a whole=more people see.
Probably by far the most important point:Your audience will shift with you.
A brand is all about sustainability. Being here for the long haul. You want to build something that will stand the test of time and change.
Short interruption for a quick story time, promise it applies to what we're talking about! When I first started my photography business I was 21 and am now 32. Lots of change has happened here guys. One of those changes was having a baby and wanting a full work at home job. So I joined an MLM. YOU GUYS, never would I have ever thought in a million years I would be part of an MLM. I mean in all honesty, never would I have expected I would even be a mom! So, really, you never know what shift or changes will occur. My point being, you want people to like you and connect with you so they will shift with you!
And this is exactly what building a brand does. It ensures that wherever you shift, It will be as seamless of a transition as possible. I hope this provided some clarity for you, but more than that, I hope you choose to be a brand!
"When done right, a brand works for you. It holds your story, vision, and purpose. It keeps your audience loyal and committed to you, no matter where life takes you." - Forbes
