How to Blog when You Don't Know What the Heck to Blog
Dec 6, 2019 | By: Melissa
Have you ever felt like you have 'nothing' to blog or nothing post about? Or may be just no new work to share? We've all heard it a million times. Having a blog and using social media is super dee duper important for your business. But you just have no clue what to actually post or blog, so you just stop posting. And guess what girl fran? Your name is missing out on the hundreds or thousands of chances to be seen by potential clients! Look boo boo, I get it because I’ve been there. If I could go back and shake the Melissa from 10 years ago, I would. And I would tell her the worst possible thing you can do is to stop showing up (insert emoji clap hands between those words!)
I get it, it can be hard. I neglected blogging and posting regularly for years. But guess what? I missed out on SO much. And in the relatively short amount of time that I've been creating better routines for consistency, I have seen tremendous growth, and my numbers increasing faster than I could have hoped for! I've had way more wedding inquiries come in and I'm steadily growing my NM Business, just by doing the do! It's also worth mentioning that this is despite not having the exact perfect strategy and despite truthfully at times, feeling like a foo'! So I want to pass on some wisdom and encouragement to anyone reading this who feels the struggle. I want to help you avoid this mistake so you can start steadily growing, so you can keep the inquiries rolling in, so that ultimately you can keep doing what you love. Because as much as you love this business and working for yourself, it has to produce an income in order to be sustainable.
I heard the following quote nearly a decade ago and it has NEVER left my head: 'Imperfect action is better than perfect inaction.' So may be now you’re thinking, k great. Now I can just proceed forward lookin like a fool with my imperfection actions. I hear ya, so listen: recently I read something from Rachel Hollis' most recent book, along the lines of: you need to be ok with sucking at something long enough to get good at it. So news flash here sis, you're gonna 'stink!' Even if it's just for a littleeeee bit. Until you really learn enough through actually doing the thang, to not stink anymore. It's a process. A journey- and yes I know how corny that word can sound, but I'm goin with it anyway!
So if you have any ideas, run with them. Don’t be scared that they’re not ‘right'. Because here's the thing: You'll never actually learn by just sitting on your cute little hiney. Sure you can absorb, but until you actually do, you won't get the experience needed to develop the skills you need to be successful! By "embracing the suck" as one of my favorite business coaches, Bob Heilig, says you'll be able to learn and grow through it. Remember, we all start somewhere. The important thing is that we start and that when we feel defeated we pick our butts back up and keep moving forward. Don't look at others and feel discouraged. Don't compare someone else's middle to your beginning. Your journey is just starting, don't let it drown before you really learn how to swim.
So here's the big secret on how to keep blogging even when you don't know how: Just Keep Showing up. Even when you don't know exactly how to. Show up with a personal story. Show up with something you found helpful. Show up with how cute your puppy is. Show up with how crazy but adorable your kids are. Show up with how much you love your fiancé. Show up with something, and prepare to feel a little stinky. But it's totally OK! I got your back, so let's just hold hands and be stinky together, K?
